About this piece
A bud vase is an exercise in restraint — a small bulb of a body and a neck narrow enough to hold a single stem upright. It asks almost nothing of the flower and gives it a stage.
We glaze these in oxblood, a copper-red that’s genuinely difficult to fire: it only develops its deep blood-red in a reduction atmosphere, and the colour shifts from bottle to bottle depending on exactly where it sat in the kiln. This one came out with a dark, glassy pool at the base and a lighter oxidised blush near the rim.
