About this piece
A big flat plate is deceptively hard: it wants to warp and crack in the kiln because the rim and the centre dry and shrink at different rates. The fix is slow, even drying — days of it, under plastic — before it ever sees heat.
The reward is a generous, low serving plate for the middle of the table: bread, fruit, cheese, whatever. The celadon breaks pale and almost white over the rim where the glaze runs thin, and settles a deeper green in the well.
